Lipstick Optional: Celebrating the Women of Northern Sky
Premiering Saturday, October 17
Welders. Doctors. Politicians. Football fans. Single mothers. Cherry farmers. Lumberjacks. These are just a few of the many memorable women Northern Sky playwrights have written into existence over the years. It’s a rich history, and we’ll revel in it Saturday, October 17 at 7 p.m. when we premiere Lipstick Optional: Celebrating the Women of Northern Sky.
Just walking down the rows of our costume shop gives you a sense of all the different women Northern Sky has brought to life: flannel, welding masks, and Packer gear right up next to sharp business suits and 19th-century calico. In putting together Lipstick Optional, we combed our archive to find clips (songs, stories, and dance) of the fantastic women who have crossed our boards over the years. It’s a way to celebrate the characters themselves–plus the women who have played them, written them, designed their sets and costumes, and choreographed and directed them.
There will be a Zoom talkback with many of these Northern Sky actors and creators immediately following the premiere event.
