The Tales of Our Lives Story Slam
Saturday, April 11, 2026
Join us for the 13th annual production of “The Tales of Our Lives – A Story Slam” presented by the Women’s Fund of Door County in collaboration with Northern Sky Theater. Five storytellers will take the stage to share their stories. Accompanied by the music of local blues artist Cathy Grier, each tale will revolve around a unique experience, relationship or life lesson that left a profound mark on the speaker.
This year’s storytellers include:
- Betts Williams – Betts recounts a deeply personal journey of healing that begins after an injury and a serious car accident. What starts as a path of physical recovery gradually expands into the exploration of energy healing, ultimately leading the author toward a profound spiritual calling. This journey culminates in her becoming both a Reiki Master and a trained spiritual director.
- Cheri Miller – Cheri’s story centers around her summer college job at the Algoma Toilet Seat Factory and a “crappy” night she had there one sweltering August evening.
- Cherryl Fonfara – Cherryl, a lifelong Chicago vocalist who loses her singing voice after illness and an accident, grieves the loss of her identity as a performer, and ultimately finds a new direction by repurposing her voice and life in unexpected ways.
- Sally Everhardus – In a first for our event, Sally will show visuals during her story, reflecting on a lifetime of drawings, sculptures, and self-portraits to explore themes of self-doubt, illness, aging, and resilience, showing how art has helped her understand and reconstruct her identity over time.
- Tracey Roberston – Sharing her journey from childhood trauma and decades of silence to truth and healing, Tracey encourages others to face their own difficult truths and take the courageous steps needed for personal freedom and growth.
Tickets are $35 each and the performance starts at 7:00 PM. A reception will follow the performances. Please note that tickets for this event are reserved seating rather than general admission.
